Hand warmth, kept in daily objects

Rivora makes tableware in small batches. We keep the throwing rings and the uneven glaze, because those are the marks of an object that is already being used.

Objects

Three objects for one table

From serving to holding branches, each piece works alone and answers the others on the same table.

We do not aim for identical

The studio sits in an old workshop building in Jingdezhen. We only hold the weight, diameter and feel within a rough range for each batch; the rest is left to how the clay behaves that day.

Each piece is made by one potter from wedging to unloading the kiln. A handwritten batch number on the foot tells you which firing it came from.

Process

From clay to object, in three steps

Process
  1. 01

    Wedging and throwing

Every piece is thrown on its own, with weight and diameter recorded. No production moulds.

  2. 02

    Trimming and bisque

Seven days of slow drying, then trimming the foot and a bisque firing at 800°C.

  3. 03

    Glazing and reduction

Hand-dipped glaze, a 1280°C reduction firing, then every piece is sorted by hand.

FAQ

On custom work and care

Can you produce a custom batch?

Yes. We work with restaurants, guesthouses and retail brands. Minimums and lead times depend on shape and glaze, usually from 60 pieces.

Will every piece be identical?

No. Handwork brings small differences in size and glaze. Within a batch we keep them interchangeable in use.

How should I care for it?

Dishwasher safe. Avoid the microwave and sudden temperature changes. We suggest hand-washing the pinched cups to keep the glaze longer.

Can I see samples at the studio?

Yes. Send an inquiry and we will reply with visiting hours and the address.
