Studio
A small tableware studio in Jingdezhen, working in limited batches.

The studio sits in an old workshop building in Jingdezhen. We only hold the weight, diameter and feel within a rough range for each batch; the rest is left to how the clay behaves that day.
Each piece is made by one potter from wedging to unloading the kiln. A handwritten batch number on the foot tells you which firing it came from.
Local clay and glazes mixed in-house. Only three colours — bone, oat and sand grey — so they mix easily on one table.
Throwing, trimming, bisque, glazing and reduction firing all happen in the studio. Nothing is outsourced and nothing is slip-cast.
We make small custom runs for restaurants, guesthouses and select shops. We would rather start from a menu or a room than from a spec sheet.

Process
Wedging and throwing
Every piece is thrown on its own, with weight and diameter recorded. No production moulds.
Trimming and bisque
Seven days of slow drying, then trimming the foot and a bisque firing at 800°C.
Glazing and reduction
Hand-dipped glaze, a 1280°C reduction firing, then every piece is sorted by hand.
Studio visits by appointment, Wednesday to Saturday.
